Highfield and Portswood have been badly affected by war; the loss of so many sons in WW1 and the devastation at home and abroad in WW2. Along with the rest of the country, we choose to remember this on Remembrance Sunday, but in 2010 we wanted to remember why we remember – who were the people we lost? What were the sacrifices made? What happened in our community and what should this mean to us now? Our community coming together in a renewed sense of respect for those generations who went through so much.
With information found from research, a Wall of Remembrance was created at Highfield Church, to allow those taking part to know something of all the individuals whose sacrifice we mourn. This was displayed alongside one of a series of 1 minutes slide presentations telling a selected story during the moment of silence.
Some of the research completed is available on these pages under the Lest We Forget heading. Other items relating to old boys of Highfield School and the Roll of Honour held there, can be found under the Highfield School menu
