In the 1851 census, the family of a Samuel Westen (b.1779, Cumberland) are shown living in Alfredo Street, St. Marys, Southampton. Samuel was a farmer. His wife Sarah (b. 1795, Lancashire) was a seamstress. Daughter Mary (b.1829, Halifax, Yorkshire) was a dressmaker and Sarah Ann (b.1834, Halifax, Yorkshire) was a teacher.
