In the 1851 census, Jane Miles, (b.1788, Dorset) was a widow, visiting her daughter at Dinoure Cottage, Bedford Terrace, Southampton. Her daughter, Anne M (b. 1814, Damerham, Hampshire) was married to Henry Ward (b.1791, Southampton), a Royal Navy Lieutenant on half pay. They had two 11 month old children, Charles H and Mary J. They had two domestic servants.
