In the 1861 census, James Brooks, (b.1819, Fordingham, Hampshire) was a Grocer living in Adelade Road, South Stoneham. He lived with his wife Mary Ann (b.1818, Wickham, Hampshire) and two lodgers who were working as telephone clerks, Albert and Harry Tubb.
