In the 1841 census, John & Mary Boden were living in St. Michael, Hampshire. John worked as an engineer. Also living with them was a 17 year old, William Boden (no indication of relationship).

In the 1851 census, John (b.1801 in Tipton Staffordshire) and Mary (b.1803, Guernsey) are living at 26 French Street in Southampton. John was an Engineer. They have 3 children living with them. John (b.1826) who was indicated to be deaf and dumb, Eliza (b.1829) and Walter C. (b.1842). They had a visitor, Mary Roberts, their niece from Guernsey.

In the 1881 census, Mary is widowed and living at No.2 Belladonna Villa, Portswood (her son Walter is living next door, see below). Staying with her is her grand-daughter Eliza M. Coley (aged 28) and she has a visitor Catherine M. Gulley (aged 69) from London.

Walter Charles Boden married Agnes Rebecca Bourke (registered December 1865, South Stonham, Vol. 2c, page 107) and they went on to have 8 children all born in South Stoneham.

Eliza Boden married Joseph Coley (registered Jun 1851, Southampton, Vol. 7, page 259) and from the 1861 census, they had 3 children all born in Southampton.

In 1861 they were living at 1 Canton Place, All Saints parish, Southampton. Joseph was a Marine Engineer. Also living with them was one servant, Emma East aged 14.
